Welcome to Our Website

If you need accommodation in the Lake District we here at Long Byres at Talkin Head are situated close to the Lake District and not far from Hadrian's Wall. We are a set of holiday cottages sitting on top of a small hill farm in the North Pennines.

We offer you a perfect guest house accommodation service in 7 luxurious Lake District cottages. Our cottages have been designed to fit in with the local and surrounding areas and truly give off that "farm house" vibe.

Quality Accommodation

We offer you a quiet cottage in the Lake District to enjoy your holiday in. There are 7 to choose from and all offer something a little different, sleeping between 2 and 7 people all with mod cons and fully fitted bathrooms and kitchens, there is something to suit everyone's needs.

There is plenty to do around the cottages, simple pleasures like family picnics by our stream, BBQs, sunbathing in the garden or boating on Talkin Tarn is also part of holidays at Long Byres. These are also the perfect choice for those wishing to go out of the door and straight on to the Fells.

Local Activities...

There is excellent walking here and in nearby Lake District; many families have used the cottages as a base to walk the National Trail along Hadrian's Wall. Visitors are welcome everywhere on the farm to enjoy the farm animals, sheep, pigs, hen's alpacas and ducks just to mention a few, and then there is the wildlife.

With patience an abundance of wildlife can be seen, such as deer, the rare red squirrel, fox, badger, bats and of course a wide variety of birds. The fells are home to Peregrine Falcons, Hen Harriers, the very rare Black Grouse and the ever present Buzzards - plenty for birdwatchers to enjoy.

For those of you wanting to visit the local towns, Carlisle, a thriving city is only 10 miles away and offers good and plentiful shopping and many historic sites, the castle and cathedral for starters. Even closer than that is the Brampton Golf Course, perfect for those of you who want to play a few greens in the afternoon.
